Learn when to contact your utility

The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) states that there are more than five transmission and distribution (TDU) service areas across the state. Keep in mind that different areas in Texas are serviced by different TDUs. However, all TDUs respond to electrical emergencies and maintenance inquiries, so be sure to keep your TDU contact information handy. When you experience a power outage, call your TDU, not your provider.

Stream and the community

Stream's program Stream Cares gives back to Texas' children in need. On its site, Stream discusses its partnership with Captain Hope's Kids. Located in Dallas, Texas, the organization's mission is to provide homeless children with important items such as school supplies, clothing, diapers and more. Stream Cares does its part each year by sponsoring an event called Splash For Hope. Children spend a carefree day at the waterpark.

In addition, Stream has made efforts to help veterans and military families through some of the following initiatives.

  • Operation Once in a Lifetime: In December 2015, Stream sponsored three holiday events for veterans and military families.
  • Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces Program (SAF): Stream donated funds to support new technology for the Emergency Communications Center (ECC). Through the ECC, the Red Cross keeps military families connected to emergency resources.
  • Cell Phones For Soldiers: In 2015, Stream partnered with Cell Phones For Soldiers to keep military personnel connected to their loved ones. For every mobile customer gained in May 2015, Stream donated 1,000 international minutes to an overseas soldier.

Most Texans in deregulated areas must choose a retail electric provider (REP) to supply their business or home with electricity. With multiple choices, it might be difficult to find the best plan for your energy needs. Before you begin to view electricity supply rates in your area, make sure you understand your options. Some REPs provide unique features such as 24-hour customer service, customer rewards programs and paperless billing. As a consumer, it's your responsibility to thoroughly research REPs before choosing one to supply your electricity.
